Who is the company?

Barrnon is a bespoke, fast-growing R&D engineering company based in Appleby. They are a SME and focus on nuclear decommissioning. With clients in the UK and overseas. They primarily manufacture one-offs, using metal. But are heavily involved in anticipating the future, using scanners, AI, VR and robotics. Their goal is to solve complex environmental problems. Barrnon have a team strong on ideas and capability. And plan to move to a new engineering site in Penrith, while keeping the old in Appleby, in 2023.

 

What is the role?

This is a Junior Project Engineer position and the successful candidate will work on a range of engineering projects. You need to be hands-on and driven.

You’d be responsible for the smooth running of projects, working closely with the project managers.  This includes planning, design, evaluation and testing of innovative R&D solutions. It includes helping manage schedules/timesheets, gathering resources, completing quality assurance packs, communicating progress to team members and providing detailed reports on project progress and cost management.

You will be supported in your role by a team of engineers and designers – accuracy and attention to detail being key. You should be comfortable working with numbers and multi-million-pound client contracts.

 

Responsibilities

Support the project managers in all aspects of a project; including credit control and allocation of monies received

Manage the BOM for the PMs and designers

Produce high quality technical documentation for external clients, often to Nuclear Industry standards

Gather requirements, engage in design discussions, plan and monitor aspects of projects

Provide engineering support to design team including creation/ checking of calculations and compiling technical documentation

Monitor compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and specifications

Develop test plans in conjunction with technical team and coordinate/ record testing of products

Interact daily with the technical team to understand technical challenges and to help problem solve

Cooperate and communicate effectively with project manager and other project participants to provide assistance and technical support

Review engineering deliverables and initiate appropriate corrective actions

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or relevant field
  • Advanced MS Office skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Enthusiastic approach to work
  • Working knowledge of CAD software such as Solidworks
  • Familiarity with rules, regulations, best practices and performance standards
  • Ability to work with multiple discipline projects
  • Time management and organization skills
Beneficial
  • Experience in similar regulated industry
  • Proven ability to perform engineering calculations Working towards professional accreditation e.g IEng, CEng, ChPP etc
