Who is the company?

The company is a globally focused alternative investment firm advising high net worth and family office clients on their investment portfolios. They are a Single-Family Office (“Family Office”) based in London and Milan are looking for an exceptional graduate to join their team as a Junior Investment Analyst.

You will be joining a relatively new firm, which was founded in 2015 as a management spin out from a Canadian single-family office, and specialises in multi-manager public market investment, private equity, credit and venture capital investments across sectors and geographies. The investment team has been together for over 10 years and continues to grow as new opportunities arise.

The Family Office invests in two broad categories of investments, The Multi-Manager Portfolio and Private Portfolio which you will gain exposure to in your role. Over the years, the team has established extensive industry networks in North America, Europe, and China, from which it sources proprietary investment opportunities.

The successful graduate will have the unique opportunity to oversee both public market and private investment portfolios.

 

What is the Junior Investment Analyst role?

You will gain exposure to Private Portfolio and Multi-Manager Portfolio investments.

 

Private Portfolio is a portfolio of investments in private companies globally (currently Canada, USA, UK, and Columbia) in a wide range of industries like healthcare, biotech, industrial manufacturing, health foods, gaming, and others currently in various stages of development, from early growth to near-exit). The family office owns minority stakes in those companies but is generally actively receives information and has access to management process.

Day to day responsibilities include:

  • You will be expected to attend and minute board calls, management meetings, presentations, and site visits.
  • You will use exceptional attention to detail to gather all information distributed by portfolio companies (financials, any initiatives, board presentations etc.).
  • Analyse, summarise and present all information accurately.
  • Benchmark against original underwriting and ongoing targets and goals.
  • Support the wider team with business development and exit management.
  • Assist with finding external co-investors for existing investments that may require additional capital by preparing relevant material.
  • Assist in searching for secondary market exist opportunities for existing investments, if required.
  • Analyse incoming investment opportunities against internal parameters and prepare recommendations.
  • Prepare analysis of any upcoming exits.

 

The Multi-Manager Portfolio is an externally managed portfolio that consists of hedge funds and long-only funds, ETFs, stocks, bonds, and other liquid instruments globally.  You will be responsible for preparing portfolio reporting, evaluating investments, comparing external manager offerings, and doing various quantitative and qualitative evaluations. There will also be assistance in macro research and sourcing managers for particular mandates.

Day to day responsibilities include:

  • Support the team with risk monitoring and reporting, alongside data management.
  • You will be expected to interface with banks/custodians to obtain and analyse portfolio return and risk data.
  • Maintaining and updating monthly portfolio returns and risk summary.
  • Benchmark performance against indices and check alignment of external managers’ market outlook and the portfolio composition, as well as other managers’ model portfolios.
  • Maintain all relevant data organized and up to date.
  • Provide quantitative analysis of any underlying investments on a regular basis.
  • Perform ad hoc back tests of various scenarios.
  • Support in ad hoc sector and market analysis when necessary.
